Ian - Technical Director, Lead Trainer and Assessor

Ian Blackburn Large

Ian achieved a Law degree before honing his skills as an expert trainer in a variety of high profile management, training and development roles.

Frustrated by the lack of quality First Aid training available, in 2012 Ian embarked upon a mission to create Life Saving Training - the award winning First Aid and Health and Safety organisation with a difference.

Since then, he’s taken the organisation from strength to strength. With a passion for modern, hands-on, quality assured training that works in the real world, he loves providing confidence and the skills to help people in need - encouraged by fantastic customer feedback and a solid business reputation.

Ian is an operational 'Casualty Carer' and elected Medical Officer for a Mountain Rescue team. He is also qualified to First Response Emergency Care Level 4 along with NAEMT Prehospital Trauma Life Support.

Ian has a keen sense of humour, enjoys rock and ice climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, trail running and is a Rescue Diver.

 

Helena - Operations Manager

Helena achieved a degree in Psychology before a successful career within the public sector outsourcing industry as Operations Manager, delivering high profile government contracts.

During 10 years in these roles she was responsible for successfully operating various government led services and building and maintaining strong relationships with high profile clients. 

Responsible for the recruitment, training and ongoing development of her team, Helena also developed robust quality assurance processes. 

Helena ensures that our service delivery is exceptional and consistent. In charge of planning, she delivers outstanding customer service as well as building our amazing team. She's also a qualified trainer and assessor, and leads on our Mental Health based courses.

Helena is an operational Casualty Carer as well the Training Officer for a Mountain Rescue team, a keen mountaineer, horse rider, rescue diver and provides event medical cover and is also qualified to First Response Emergency Care Level 4 (FREC4). She makes an awesome cup of tea too!

Alistair - Trainer

First Aid Trainer

Alistair achieved a Bachelor of Engineering degree and initially trained as a Civil Engineer before starting work for a management development organisation. He moved into outdoor pursuits and then managed a successful outdoor centre before focussing on First Aid and Health & Safety full time in 2010.

Alistair is the Medical Officer for a Mines Rescue Unit, a professional team specialising in medical care and rope rescue for underground incidents and confined spaces.

He is an operational Mountain Rescue Casualty Carer and First Response Emergency Care Level 4. He also develops and delivers specialist Casualty Care training for Mountain Rescue teams and provides event medical cover in remote and rural environments.

Alistair is a keen cyclist, paddler and general outdoors person and has a highly infectious laugh!

Hamish - Trainer

First Aid Trainer

 

Hamish served as a Firefighter and Search And Rescue team member in New Zealand for many years. He has extensive experience of firefighting, technical rope rescue and providing medical care.

Hamish is an experienced, highly skilled trainer in First Aid, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, Working at Height and Technical Rescue. 

In his spare time, Hamish loves to take part in outdoor pursuits including mountain running, stand up paddle boarding, kite surfing and generally enjoying remote environments.

Friendly and personable, Hamish also has a keen sense humour!

Chris - Fire Safety Consultant

Chris (left hand side of the photo) is a serving Firefighter of over 15 years and provides ongoing technical support and consultancy to Life Saving Training in areas of his expertise.

Chris completes regular training in Advanced First Aid and Emergency Response and Rescue procedures in addition to ongoing training and development specific to the Fire and Rescue Service.

Chris’ consultancy work with Life Saving Training ensures that our Fire Safety training courses are always up to date, relevant and fit for purpose.

Chris loves the outdoors and enjoys keeping fit!

Nic - PADI EFR Instructor and Technical Support

Nic

Nic managed the busiest dive centre in Malaysia for 4 years along with James, prior to returning to the UK to establish their very own dive centre, The Fifth Point Diving Centre, in Blyth.

Nic is an experienced PADI Diving Instructor as well as an Emergency First Response Instructor and Instructor trainer. 

She’s a leading force in the industry, with a passion for the best safety standards, modern diving techniques, superb customer service and protecting the environment.

Life Saving Training collaborate regularly with The Fifth Point, to blow existing PADI Emergency First Response courses out of the water!

James - PADI EFR Instructor and Technical Support

James

James managed the busiest dive centre in Malaysia for 4 years along with Nic, prior to returning to the UK to establish their very own dive centre, The Fifth Point Diving Centre, in Blyth.

James is an experienced PADI Instructor and Emergency First Response Instructor with the same passion as Nic to be the leading force in their industry.

James leads the in-water technical rescue elements of our Dive Buddy First Aid Workshops and Emergency First Response courses, ensuring you get first class, purposeful training, providing skills that work in the real world.
