SCHOOL FIRST AID

Legal Obligations for Schools

All workplaces need to complete a First Aid needs assessment and ensure they have enough appropriately trained First Aiders to keep their staff safe. To help with this, we offer a new, Ofqual regulated qualification, the ITC Level 3 Award in First Aid for Schools and Colleges (FASch). This qualification is delivered over two days, and is the best fit to cover most staff at most schools and colleges, particularly those with children beyond the early years. Paediatric specific first aid courses include content for babies and toddlers, which isn't relevant beyond early years providers. With this new qualification, it's completely tailored to your context and can save you time and money. For example, if you've previously been arranging three day First Aid at Work with Paediatric First Aid combined, then this new course can be completed over two days, not three!

The qualification covers both adults and children above the age of 5 and meets the needs of the HSE’s first aid guidance in allowing alternative qualifications to Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work (L74, section 63). It also meets the guidance set out by both the DfE and HSE that additional training in paediatric first aid, such as resuscitation procedures for children is included. To enquire about this qualification for a private course at your school or college, just get in touch as we'd love to help.

If you'd prefer to keep to Emergency First Aid at Work, First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work Re-Qualification courses, we can still help make the most of your time and budget, by combining courses, such as First Aid at Work combined with Paediatric First Aid and can deliver School First Aid courses on INSET Days or throughout the school year. We also offer Mental Health First Aid, Fire Marshall/Fire Warden Training and other Health and Safety courses to keep your school compliant and everyone safe.

Keep Students Safe in Schools - Specific Environments

As you’d expect, schools need to have enough appropriately trained First Aiders to deal with any incidents that may occur, wherever they may occur. If you run a Forest School, we offer specific Forest School First Aid. For those who run the Duke of Edinburgh Award we offer a range of Outdoor First Aid courses to help you look after people in this outdoor context. Physical Education (PE) departments may benefit from our First Aid for Sport courses. Just get in touch if you have any questions!

First Aid training is now part of the National Curriculum in England

Teaching students First Aid doesn’t just help meet the National Curriculum requirements, it can help us embed life saving skills in the next generation. We ensure we engage our learners by placing them at the centre of everything we do, creating a nation of life savers who have the skills and confidence to help others. Suitable courses for students may include Basic Life Support or a Bespoke First Aid course which can be made just for you and tailored to your exact requirements. Want to know how we support lots of other schools across the region? What our customers say

"Both trainers were absolutely brilliant in their approach and delivery. The best First Aid training I have received in 35 years. Thank you!"

E Glenton, Kingston Park Primary School

“Having completed several first aid courses over the years where some guy or girl tells an uninterested audience, boring and horrific stories for about 6 pain staking, clock watching hours I can honestly say these guys are at the other end of the scale. I've just completed the Emergency First Aid at work course with Life Saving Training and it was great! Having the course broken down into practical hands on activities is great, however having the course tailored to each and every clients’ profession or discipline discussing potential situations was outstanding. Working in the education sector I am well aware of the need for pace and challenge as well as differentiation, all of which was delivered above and beyond expectations with great humour. In the past these courses have been something you have had to basically sit through and survive. I can highly recommend these guys who will deliver the content through real life and relevant situations. A very productive days training.”

How will you benefit from Life Saving Training?

At Life Saving Training we look after a number of schools, academies, nurseries and other places of education. First Aid in Schools can be a seemingly complex subject. After all, there are a few different things to consider.

Firstly, our First Aid training can be either regulated by Ofqual/SQA or non regulated depending on your requirements. It meets and exceeds the minimum standards set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and uses our systematic approach to enable our First Aiders to confidently and effectively respond to various incidents. It meets The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Faculty of Pre-hospital Care (FPHC) Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) guidelines at level B.

Life Saving Training offers a modern, proven alternative to the outdated and ineffective training that litters the world of first aid. We empower learners by placing them at the centre of everything we do. We focus on positive casualty outcomes and provide skills that work in the real world. Our specialised training results in guaranteed increased confidence and a higher retention rate of knowledge and skills. Our Life Saving Training saves lives.
