Scientists have made a significant leap towards mass producing platelets – the part of the blood that forms clots – in the laboratory. An NHS and University of Cambridge team discovered how to grow the body’s platelet in a laboratory. This is a significant breakthrough, as the team found they could actually improve the clotting which would have huge advantages for people who have suffered serious injuries.
